Vans was founded in 1966 by two brothers in California. Vans quickly built up an image among skaters. About 10 years later, in 1977, the most iconic skate shoe of all time was born, the Vans #36 Old Skool. The well-known side stripe was introduced on this model. What was then called the 'jazz stripe' among enthusiasts is now an unmistakable design element of the Vans brand.
'Off the wall'
In 19082, Vans' most famous shoe was presented to the world through the American comedy 'Fast Times at Ridgemonth High'. From one day to the next, the checkerboard pattern became a true icon.
