The Jordan sneaker brand originally originated from a Nike basketball sneaker named after the NBA basketball player Michael Jordan. Jordan signed a sponsorship contract with Nike in 1984. Michael Jordan's first 'signature' sneaker was released in 1985 as the Air Jordan I. Nowadays, NBA basketball players such as Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul play in their own 'signature' Jordan sneakers.

In 1997, Nike revealed that Jordan was becoming a brand in its own right. This important moment for the Jordan brand was celebrated with the release of the Jordan XIII. Since then, Jordan products have only featured the Jumpman logo and the Jordan brand name.
