William J. Riley from Boston (USA) founded New Balance in 1906. It started as a small family business. In the early '30s Riley designed his first shoe for the Boston sports club. During the '40s New Balance started making handmade shoes. They did include running shoes, basketball shoes, tennis shoes and boxing shoes The philosophy of New Balance's is "Endorsed By No One ™". Instead of investing large sums of money in marketing and sponsorship, of major sports stars. New Balance invests their money to create new models and innovative designs and better materials. All New Balance shoe models have number codes instead of names, which make it clear that it is all about the name New Balance, and not the separate models.
